It's the perfect book for someone about to enter the dating world, someone who's already in the dating world, or anyone who's been in it and would enjoy reliving the highs and lows from the perspective of a cyber-dating expert. Throughout reading the book, I found myself relating so much to Julie as she shared her experiences of trying to find someone online suitable enough to meet for a date in person. And the fact that she describes herself as a "Hopeful Romantic," and writes that way, gives us all hope. As someone who has tried Julie Spira's book, The Perils of Cyber-Dating: Confessions of a Hopeful Romantic Looking for Love Online, is the most truthful and hilarious books about searching online for love that I've ever read.
Julie Spira, a pioneer in the Internet industry, became the first on her block to post an online dating profile.
So I am not so sure that she was looking for love though she did have some pretty horrific "dating" stories.
Of course, the fault was never hers and the guys were always the one to do wrong.
Author Website: I decided to write a book about my own online dating experiences ( I considered who I'd want to write its foreword and Julie Spira was the obvious choice.
Besides having walked the walk and dated the date, as it were, Julie has a wonderful knack for talking the talk--she describes her dating adventures with refreshing honesty, delightful humor, and invaluable cautionary advice.
I was pleansantly surprised at how much insight the book provided.
Cyber-Dating is definitely a big business; just look at all of the television commercials pushing different sites.I do not know where to begin on why this book was so bad.I will start with the fact that even though she states she is a Hopeful Romantic Looking for Love all the way through the book she mention her size 0 shopping sprees, her brand names, types of cars, professions of dates, swanky upscale "meet" places.I quickly threw out the self-help part as I felt the author really had nothing in common with the average person looking for love online.Plus with rules like you can lie about your age by 5 to 10 years and your body weight by 5 to 10 lbs but be upset if the guy does it was a little far fetching. So I then just read it from an entertainment point of view but she was neither funny nor engaging.
